Dr. Louis Scoma and Dr. Eric Gerken began discussing the connection between chronic disease and chronic inflammation in the mid- 1990’s while studying for their board certification in Anti-Aging medicine with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). They discovered that osteoporosis was an inflammatory disease and not a deficiency of calcium mineral as commonly thought. This observation set the stage for further insights into the common denominator of all chronic diseases, that being, chronic inflammation.
TAMING YOUR FLAME: A FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE APPROACH
WHY TAMING YOUR FLAME
While the scientific research on the connection between chronic disease and chronic inflammation is now well accepted, the clinical application of this research is sorely lacking. Even after 20 years of research, the conventional medical approach is still symptom-relief-oriented with pharmaceutical intervention the standard approach. Symptomatic relief is laudable, but does not address the root cause of the symptoms. This essentially is how Taming Your Flame was born.
